Fit2Tri Multisport

Setting Goals

By Richard Nixon

Setting goals is simple if you follow the three basic steps below. By doing this it will allow me to properly plan your season and workouts that will help you accomplish your goals. The two most important things to remember about setting and working towards your goals are:

1) Set goals that challenge you. They should be specific and within you control. Setting goals that can be achieved easily will not help you improve, but setting goals that you can achieve if you work hard will show you how much you can improve.

2) Be flexible and willing to adjust your goals. If you set a goal you thought was challenging, but you reached it sooner than expected, with less work than planed, the set another goal. If you set a goal that you could not reach, perhaps it was more difficult that you thought, so set another goal that is not quite as difficult.

Step 1: Establish long-range goal

Think about what you want to accomplish by the end of the triathlon season and write that below. You may decide on several goals (preferably three) such as completing a specific race or swim, bike or run in a specific time.

My long –range goals are:

1.

2.

3.

Step 2: Establish intermediate goals

Now think about what you must do to achieve your long term goals. If you want to set a personal best time, you will need to gradually lower your time. If you want to be competitive in your age group what will it take?

My intermediate goals are:

To accomplish long range goal 1, I need to:

a.

b.

c.

To accomplish long range goal 2, I need to:

a.

b.

c.

To accomplish long range goal 3, I need to

a.

b.

c.

Step 3: Establish short-term goals

Your short-term goals are the things you need to accomplish each day and each week of training to progress and accomplish your intermediate goals as your work towards your long-range goals. Each week before the training begins your should write down three things (preferably in you training log) you feel you need to do that week to take you one step closer towards your intermediate goals.

Goals I want to accomplish this week of Date:___________

a.

b.

c.

By taking the time to set goals and write them down you will have given yourself a road map to success. Each training session will have purpose and direction. Your goals will not be just random thought in your head, but specific and detailed for you to read and strive for everyday!

Written by Richard Nixon, USAT Level II triathlon coach. For more information on how to take that next step towards obtaining your goals contact Richard at 954-242-0162 or rich@fit2tri.com

Well I found it. DeSoto arm coolers not only protect your arms from the sun, they actually do make your arms feel cooler. In this crazy sun I will take help I can get.

A nice added benefit is that while in the aero position your arms don’t slide around like they may when you have lotion on.

What: After a certain time on your bike you may consider to replace your rear derailleur, but sometimes just replacing the pulleys may make that derailleur feel quite new. Others my just look for something lighter and possibly with less friction and that is where the Hawk Racing pulleys come in. Made from 7075 alloy they are strong and light and according to Hawk offer very low friction.
